Our Story

Constituted in May 1946, Robertsville Baptist Church was one of several Southern Baptist     churches that got its start as Oak Ridge was emerging from the shadows of secrecy at the end of WWII. The gym of the Robertsville Junior High was our first meeting space. Shortly, this new and excited congregation moved to an apartment complex not far from our current location at 251 Robertsville Road. In 1955 this courageous group of believers known as Robertsville Baptist Church broke ground on a quiet hill adjacent to the junior high school with its first building, a sanctuary. This initial building was put together with the hard work and commitment of the men and women of the church. Some of the young people who helped and watched their parents work are now long-standing members.

From our beginning days the spirit and humility of Christ have engendered a desire among the people to live with the same Christ-like spirit towards one another, our neighbors, and the world. Robertsville Baptist Church has been a strong, missions-minded congregation in Oak Ridge and across east Tennessee and the Tennessee Baptist Convention. As an early church slogan says, RBC truly is “a church that changed the city that changed the world.”

Today, we continue to worship and serve together with that same spirit, energy, and motivation that gave birth to the church. Great days have gone before us...but as the old saying goes, “The best is yet to come.” The same devoted faith in Jesus Christ and his Great Commission that our founders had inspires us, today, to set out to write our own, courageous story!
